District Spotlight

Colbert Public Schools

Colbert Public Schools was established in 1907. A small rural school district that now educates approx. 900 students, 3yrs thru 12th grade. Colbert acquired their first Transportation Director, by chance, in 1990. Mr. Sorrell started out as a bus driver and within six months the school created him an office in what was a storage area. The buses were kept beside the high school and all maintenance was done under a shade tree in the Ag. Dept. parking lot. In 2001 ground was broken for the new Transportation Facility. We now have 8 full time routes that transport over half of our student body. In the 15 years that I have been a part of our Transportation there have been no at-fault accidents by our drivers. We have  very little turnover with our drivers and have one, Mr. Pittman, that has been here for almost 35 yrs now. He is also a custodian in the school cafeteria. All of our drivers are very involved in the school district, with the students, activities and community. We take great pride in our big yellow buses and make sure that our drivers are kept up to date on training and safety.
